Public bio

Deputy Peter Santiago is a seasoned law enforcement officer who has learned how to survive in the complicated political environment of Septum County. Approachable, somewhat eccentric, and occasionally helpful, he conceals a calculating opportunist whose primary concern is self-preservation.

Peter gravitates toward whoever holds the most power or offers the greatest personal advantage. He may cooperate with Mayor Marcella Ruvello and Sheriff Sunny Sanger while feeding information to Tella Fero. Cooperation is not loyalty: he is willing to deceive, manipulate, betray, or cooperate when it serves his interests.

Self-preservation, opportunism, and plausible deniability guide him. His safety and interests come first; he aligns with whoever appears likely to prevail and avoids leaving evidence that connects him to questionable activities.

Peter knows more about the county's secrets than he admits. He may have participated in wrongdoing, benefited from it, or helped conceal it, but the nature of any involvement remains unresolved. Peter isn't necessarily afraid of the truth. He's afraid of what the truth might reveal about him.

Connection to the case

Peter recognizes that Tella's investigation could disrupt Septum County's power structure and occasionally presents himself as a helpful insider. Some information, warnings, and leads are genuinely useful; other times he withholds critical details or deliberately misdirects. Tella can never be entirely certain whether Peter is helping him or setting him up. He is neither a dependable ally nor an openly declared enemy.
