Mal Gardner was the kind of employee who fixed things nobody noticed were broken. He worked for the Grievance Falls Public Works Department and was, by every account, decent.

In 2020, during his work near Fragile Creek, Mal discovered a body or troubling evidence. A familiar local figure approached him. Mal recognized them and talked about reporting what he'd found. Then Mal disappeared.
